In Senegal's Louga
region, a water infrastructure system is providing - for the first time - access to clean water for more
than 11,000 people in over 53 villages. This new water pipe has increased the percentage of people who
have clean, potable water from 45 percent to 95 percent.
During the course of one year, over 60 miles of
PVC (plastic) pipe was manufactured and shipped by JM Eagle, and installed throughout the
Louga region as part of The Earth Institute's Millennium Villages Projects - an initiative designed to end extreme
poverty in rural communities throughout Africa. Prior to this water infrastructure project, people in the region often walked up
to 10 miles a day to reach the nearest source of clean water. These same people now have direct and quick
access to sources of fresh water, and as a result their overall health and prosperity has improved significantly.
